Sam Writes: Hello!  My name is Sam. My brother Max and I were rescued by Liz, the Doxie Girl, who saved us from a heartless breeder who kept Max and me in cages day and night. I won't say what he used us for; but to put it nicely, we were real money makers to him, pure and simple. When he thought we had outlived our usefulness, he carted Max and me off to the pound. That was in 2006. We were three at the time.

Luckily, Liz found us and took us in. Max got adopted soon after we came to Liz, but I was too frightened to even take a chance on someone new. I barked at everyone except Liz.

One day Liz put me in the car and took me and a small female dog to visit someone who had just moved from New York to Greensboro. I was just along for the ride really. This new person told Liz that she was looking for a little girl. At 16 pounds I could never be considered little, and I'm definitely not a girl. I guess Liz figured it was a day out for me.

When I walked into the house, I forgot my fears. The new lady Linda did not reprimand me for barking. For once, I was not afraid. Every time Linda sat on the couch, I jumped up next to her. She would pet me, and I loved it. I became her shadow for three days. Anywhere Linda went, I was right behind. I decided that I could spend the rest of my life here. Did Linda know it? I was hoping and praying that she did.

When Liz came back, she was expecting Linda to keep the female and send me packing. Instead, Linda said "Sam's perfect! We'll keep him." I think Liz was shocked, but happy. The date was January 1, 2008. That was my lucky day, the day when I finally found my forever home.

My new owners, Linda and Bob, adore me. They call me "Sam-I-Am." I don't mind. I am sooooo happy now.  At the age of five, I am finally part of a real family.
